Sevenoaks Driving Test Centre is a practical driving test centre run by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency at 45 Argyle Road, a residential road just off Sevenoaks town centre. It conducts car tests and the practical parts of the Approved Driving Instructor qualification.[1][2] In the year to March 2026 it carried out 6,740 car tests with a pass rate of 59.0%.[3]

Arriving

Newman advises learners to meet their instructor about an hour beforehand to warm up on local roads, then arrive about ten minutes before the test, since earlier arrivals find the car park full of the previous slot's cars.[1]

Parking

Parking is limited. Candidates should reverse into a space if safe, so they drive out forwards: by the wooden fence if first to arrive, otherwise against the brick wall of the building. If full, a legal marked bay on the road outside or on Granville Road is acceptable, and the examiner walks out.[1]

Inside

Of the two front doors, the main one is for examiners; candidates use the door on the right, follow a short corridor and turn left into the waiting room. The examiner calls candidates by first name, checks their licence and asks them to sign on an iPad. Examiners no longer shake hands. Candidates may have their instructor or anyone over 16 sit in the back.[1]

What to bring

A UK photocard licence, or a paper licence with a valid passport. Without the right licence the test is cancelled and the fee lost. A theory certificate is not needed. Glasses or contact lenses should be worn if needed for the eyesight check.[1]

Leaving the centre

Newman regards the first few minutes as deceptively hard. Several candidates often leave at once, and Argyle Road, used as a cut-through, is narrowed by parked cars. He advises treating the exit as a manoeuvre, not letting other candidates rush you, and taking the turn onto Argyle Road without cutting the corner or swinging wide. On return, candidates should keep to walking pace in the car park.[1]
